my Heru/hero-octavia butler

octavia Butler's writing was one part ingenious fantasy, part ancestral memory, and full out celestial prophecy. her words were so sure, too real to be imaginary, too fantastical to be real. with her pen strokes she gave life to alien landscapes, revolutionary ideas, and the sense of the symbiotic connectedness that was a prevailing theme in her work. she was one of the first sistas to take the science fiction world by storm, giving an afrikan perspective to a literary genre where there previously was none. it was dynamic. her voice echoed of kemetic cosmologies and dogon origins that continue to reverberate in my subconsciousness. she was my heru/hero. she made me realize that it was ok to believe in aliens,ok to buck the system, ok to be creative, ok to think outside the box. because of her i remain on the fringe and journey of the star seed continues. ase.
